As per the records available this school was established by Christian Missionaries as a primary school in 1944. In 1948 the local public and social workers re-established it as junior high school. It was re-named as Himalayan Public Junior High School Chelusain in 1970. In 1977 it was upgraded as Government High School and then in 1990 as Government Inter College.
